Worksheet · Strategy Health Check
Agree the three-to-five-year goals in one session
It prints on A4 with room to write.
A revenue number is a target. It is not yet a set of goals. This sheet is the half page the leadership fills in and signs in one session. It builds the Competent step of the check:
Three-to-five-year goals are agreed by the leadership, financial and otherwise, and written down.
Before the session
Agree the baseline first. Every target is measured from a figure everyone accepts, such as last year's audited result.
The half page
| Goal | Target (a number and a date) | Baseline today | Can it be split by business unit? | Owner |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | ||||
| Profit (EBIT or margin) | ||||
| Return on capital (only if capital is recorded by unit) | ||||
| Customers | ||||
| People | ||||
| What we become (one sentence) | ||||
| e.g. Profit | EBIT of $40m by FY30 | $28m in FY26, audited | Yes, by division | CFO |
Checks before signing
- Each target is stated as an absolute figure, with the growth rate beside it.
- A return-on-capital goal appears only if capital is allocated down to the units that must hit it.
- At least one goal is not financial.
- The "what we become" line names something a customer or recruit would notice.
- The goals do not contradict each other, for example a margin goal that the revenue goal would break.
Sign-off

Done when: the goals, financial and otherwise, are written on half a page and every member of the leadership team has signed it.
