Worksheet · Strategy Health Check

Put the group page on top and the unit pages under it

It prints on A4 with room to write.

Unit plans stapled together make a group budget. A group strategy decides where the group competes and what it will not own. This sheet writes the group page, then checks every unit page against it. It builds the Competent step of the check:

Each unit's strategy says where it competes and how it wins in terms that visibly follow from the group's choices, and the group page names what it will not own.

Step 1. The group page

Box Your words
Where the group is going (aim and goals)
Where the group competes (industries, customers, regions)
What the group will not own
How the group adds value to its businesses
How capital is divided (the roles)

Step 2. Check each unit page

Each unit writes its own one-page strategy under the group page. Then test it.

Unit Where it competes How it wins Which group choice it follows from Could this page sit under any other parent? Send back?
e.g. Specialty coatings Industrial coatings for mining equipment Fast custom formulation "Grow in mining supply" No No

A unit page that could belong to any parent goes back with a note naming the group choice it should follow.

Step 3. Record the send-backs

Unit Date sent back What was missing Date accepted

Done when: every unit page names the group choice it follows from, and the group page lists what the group will not own.
