Put the waves on a dated plan
Starting everything at once, or by size of benefit, sets dates to fit the target. This sheet orders initiatives into waves on real dates, with the busy season and the first quarter's benefits marked. It builds the Competent step of the check:
Initiatives are sequenced in waves on a dated plan that allows for the busy season, and the first wave's benefits are dated inside the first quarter.
Step 1. Score each initiative
| Initiative | Value ($m) | Ease (high, medium, low) | Waits on | Needs people from | Wave |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| e.g. New trade terms | 3.0 | medium | Customer profit model | Sales, finance | 2 |
An initiative that waits on another goes in a later wave. Break a large initiative into parts with their own cost and benefit, so the early parts can run first.
Step 2. The plan
| Wave | Initiatives | Start | First benefit date | Full run-rate date | Busy-season months to avoid |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | |||||
| 2 | |||||
| 3 |
Wave 1's first benefit must fall inside the first quarter.
Step 3. Do the leaders believe it?
| Leader | Workstream | Believes the end date? (yes, no, with a change) | What would make it believable |
|---|---|---|---|
Done when: every initiative sits in a dated wave, the busy season is marked, and wave 1 has a benefit dated in the first quarter.
