Worksheet · Operating Model Health Check
Name the few things done the same way everywhere
Procedures written for the auditor sit on a shelf while each team works its own way. This sheet picks the few processes that must be the same everywhere and leaves the rest local on purpose. It builds the Competent step of the check:
The few processes that must run the same way everywhere are written and followed, and the rest are deliberately left local.
Step 1. Sort the processes
| Process | Must it be the same everywhere? | Why (safety, the customer promise, cost, the law) | Or left local because |
|---|---|---|---|
| e.g. Quoting a custom job | Yes | Margin and the customer promise | |
Keep the "same everywhere" list short. Five to ten processes is plenty for most businesses.
Step 2. Write each one down
| Process | Written on one page? | Owner | How we check it is followed | How often |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Step 3. Say out loud what is local
Tell the teams that everything off the list is theirs to run their own way. Record when and how.
| Told to | Date | How |
|---|---|---|
A business under 50 people: name the two or three jobs that must be done the same way every time, such as quoting. Write each on a page with an owner.
Done when: the processes that must run the same way everywhere are written and checked by an owner, and the rest are declared local.
Written for this check.
