Worksheet · Operating Model Health Check
Count the CEO's reports and signatures
It prints on A4 with room to write.
When everything waits for the CEO's signature, the CEO becomes the bottleneck. This sheet counts who reports to the CEO and what the CEO signs, then hands two categories down. It builds the Competent step of the check:
Five to eight people report to the CEO, or in a group each division head holds a full profit number, and each of them runs something with a result they are held to.
Step 1. The direct reports
| Direct report | What they run | The result they are held to | Keep as a direct report? |
|---|---|---|---|
| e.g. Head of projects | All site delivery | Project margin | Yes |
A direct report with no result of their own belongs under someone who has one.
Step 2. Log what the CEO signs for two weeks
| Item | Category | Value | Who owns the outcome | Could they sign it? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Step 3. Hand the two largest categories down
| Category | Items in two weeks | New signatory | Limit | Start date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Done when: five to eight people report to the CEO, and each one has a named result they are held to.
