Worksheet · Operating Model Health Check
Read each scorecard against what the unit controls
A scorecard that outlives the structure it was built for measures people on things they cannot move. This sheet reads each unit's measures against its levers and removes the one that drives the wrong behaviour. It builds the Competent step of the check:
Each unit's measures are things that unit actually controls, and they were rebuilt the last time the structure changed.
Step 1. Read every measure
| Unit | Measure | Does the unit control it? (fully, partly, no) | What it makes people do | Keep, move to another unit, or drop |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| e.g. Branch | Revenue per head | Partly | Branches refuse work that needs another branch's staff | Drop |
Step 2. Remove the worst one by name
| Measure removed | Unit | The behaviour it caused | Date removed | Told to the unit by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Name the measure when you remove it, so people know the behaviour it drove is no longer wanted.
Step 3. Tie the scorecards to the structure
| Last structure change | Date | Scorecards rebuilt then? | Next rebuild due with |
|---|---|---|---|
Add a line to the checklist for the next restructure: rebuild each unit's measures before it starts.
Done when: each unit's measures are things it controls, and the scorecards were rebuilt at the last structure change.
