Worksheet · KPIs and Incentives Health Check
Ask ten people what the business is trying to do
Objectives announced once in February are forgotten by May. This sheet tests whether they reach three levels down, and repeats the test each quarter. It builds the Competent step of the check:
Anyone in the business can name the year's top three objectives and say which one their team's work feeds.
Step 1. The ten-person test
Pick ten people at random, three levels below the chief executive. Ask two questions, with no warning and no page.
- What are the business's top three objectives this year?
- Which one does your team's work feed?
| Person (role, team) | Date | Objectives named (0 to 3) | Named their team's link? | What they said |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| e.g. Warehouse team leader, south | 2 August | 1 | No | "Cut costs, I think" |
Score: the number who named all three and their team's link, out of ten.
Step 2. Put the objectives where the work is done
| Place | What goes up | Who keeps it current |
|---|---|---|
Step 3. Repeat each quarter
| Quarter | Score out of ten | What we changed after the last test |
|---|---|---|
Keep going until eight in ten can answer.
Under 50 people: ask five staff at random, put the objectives where the work is done, and ask again each quarter.
Done when: eight in ten people asked at random name the top three objectives and the one their team feeds.
