Cut the measures to a dozen and define each once
When two reports disagree on last month, the meeting argues about the number. This sheet lists every measure in use, puts each to include, delete or contest, and defines the survivors once. It builds the Competent step of the check:
About a dozen measures for the business, and a handful per unit, sit in one place with a one-line definition and a source for each.
Step 1. Include, delete or contest
| Measure in use | Where it appears | Anyone acted on it last quarter? | Include, delete or contest | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Take the contested measures to one meeting and decide them there.
Step 2. The register
| Measure | Definition (one line) | Calculation | Source system | How often | Owner | Objective it serves |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| e.g. On time in full | Orders delivered complete on the promised day | Complete, on-time orders divided by all orders, weekly | Warehouse system | Weekly | Supply manager | Deliver in full, on time |
Step 3. The rule
No figure appears in the review unless it is on the register.
Done when: about twelve business measures, and a handful per unit, sit in one register with a definition and a source each.
