Fact of the week ·

Climate moved into the letter, then into the bonus

In FY2015, 13% of the ASX 200 leader letters we found mentioned climate. By FY2025 it was 55%. Over the same years, the share of companies with an environment or climate measure in the chief executive's bonus plans went from 7% to 48%. The letters moved first: most of their rise came between FY2018 and FY2021, from 26% to 51%. The bonus plans kept climbing after that, from 28% in FY2021 to 47% in FY2024.

Here is something interesting. We cannot tell from this whether one led to the other. The two counts use different groups of companies. The letters are those we found each year, fewest in FY2015. The bonus plans are the same 50+ companies in every year.
